A touch of history...
Hotel Fontana is centrally located in a small square called San Provolo, just behind the square of San Zaccaria. The archway beside the building takes us back in time to when it was the main entrance of a convent, which nowadays leads to a large, paved courtyard overlooked by the impressive church façade of San Zaccaria. In this church lies the body of Zacharias, father of John the Baptist.
Hotel Fontana (also known as Casa Fontana) was also a convent for about 30 years, where a few German nuns lived until 1968 at which point it was taken over the Stainer family. Fontana was the name of the former owner, who lived there in the19th century.
